David Brewster's letter posted on Crosscut today has more explanation about the shift to a non-profit model, including this:
Shifting tracks in this way is exciting but not easy. First is a period in which all the owners of Crosscut LLC (there are 25 of us) need to consider and vote on the proposal. During this interim, we need to economize rations, for we cannot continue to raise investment in Crosscut if the model is going to change. To conserve cash for the next two to three months, we’ve temporarily cut staff and other expenses.
One thing to note is this is not a 'done deal,' as David explains.
Another thing to note, which he maybe doesn't make as clear, is that my contract hours will be very reduced from the half-time commitment I've enjoyed this year.
